General Anxiety

If you have this disorder, you are probably a worrier and carry tension around with you. You feel anxious a great deal of the time and find it difficult to control your worrying .

When you’re anxious you may:

  • have a pounding or racing heart
  • feel tension in the muscles of your jaw or neck, shoulders or breathing muscles
  • have tingling hands and feet
  • have digestive problems
  • be dizzy
  • tremble or shake
  • be restless
  • have clammy hands
  • have a dry mouth
  • have hot flushes or chills
  • feel sick or nauseated
  • have butterflies in your stomach
  • breathe rapidly or hyperventilate

Anxiety related difficulties include:

  • HSC and exam-related anxiety
  • Performance anxiety
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Age-related anxiety, for example, a fear of getting older
  • Difficulties sleeping
  • Alcohol and substance abuse problems
  • Breathing difficulties without physical exertion
  • Fear of intimacy or of commitment
  • Feeling scared and panicky without good reason
  • Fear of getting sick or disabled
  • Fear of throwing out things
